 India pledges 15 Million US Dollars to Gavi, the Global international vaccine alliance.

Prime Minister said India is also the World’s foremost producer of vaccines and that it is fortunate to contribute to the immunization of about 60 percent of the World’s children.

GLOBAL ALLIANCE FOR VACCINES AND IMMUNIZATION(GAVI) :

BACKGROUND : 

GAVI was created in 2000 as a successor to the Children’s Vaccine Initiative, which had been launched in 1990

Geneva,Switzerland

ORGANIZATION :

GAVI is a public–private global health partnership with the goal of increasing access to immunisation in poor countries.

PRESENT HOST :

The UK government will host Gavi’s third donor pledging conference on 3-4 June 2020 to mobilise at least US$ 7.4 billion in additional resources to protect the next generation with vaccines, reduce disease inequality and create a healthier, safer and more prosperous world.

PARTNERSHIP  : 

Gavi’s impact draws on the strengths of its core partners, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and plays a critical role in strengthening primary health care (PHC), bringing us closer to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), ensuring that no one is left behind.

KEY FACTS :

  The conference works to put countries’ needs at the forefront of discussions.

It will bring together private and public sector global leaders, building long-term sustainability and vaccine supply security to reduce disease inequality and create a safer and more prosperous world.

THE IMPACT :

  • MORE CHILDREN SURVIVEThe increase in immunisation has helped halve childhood mortality by preventing approximately 13 million deaths and dramatically driven down the incidence of deadly and debilitating infectious diseases.
